Abriss der Geschichte des 1. Grossherzoglich hessischen Infanterie-(Leibgarde-)Regiment Nr. 115 is a concise regimental history chronicling the development and service of the 1st Grand Ducal Hessian Infantry “Leibgarde” Regiment No. 115. Originating in the army of the Grand Duchy of Hesse, the regiment later became part of the Imperial German Army after the unification of Germany in 1871 while preserving its distinct Hessian traditions and identity. As a Leibgarde, or Life Guard regiment, it occupied a prestigious place within the Hessian military establishment and often served ceremonial as well as combat functions.
The book traces the regiment’s origins, organization, uniforms, and peacetime service, along with its participation in major 19th-century conflicts such as the Austro-Prussian War and the Franco-Prussian War. Particular attention is usually given to officer biographies, garrison life in Darmstadt, regimental customs, and the evolution of the unit within the Prussian-led German military system. Many editions also include photographs, illustrations, casualty lists, honor rolls, and battle accounts that provide valuable material for military historians and genealogists.
