Landgräflich Hessen-Casselischer Staats-Adress-Kalender is an official administrative and court directory issued by the government of the Landgraviate of Hesse-Kassel.
It served as a structured annual (or periodic) register listing the offices and officeholders of the Hessian state, including members of the ruling court, civil administration, judiciary, and military establishment. The publication records titles, ranks, and assignments rather than personal contact addresses in the modern sense.
A central function of the Adress-Kalender was to present a clear hierarchy of the state’s institutions, showing how authority was organized across central government departments, regional administrations, and local offices. It also often included military information, such as regimental structures, officer lists, and garrison postings.
The work reflects the highly bureaucratic nature of 18th-century Hessian governance, where civil and military administration were tightly structured and formally documented. It provided an essential reference for officials operating within the state system.
