Relations des principaux sièges faits ou soutenus en Europe par les armées françaises depuis 1792 par V. D. Musset-Pathay

This major multi-volume historical compilation documents the principal sieges conducted or defended by French armies in Europe from 1792 to 1806, covering the French Revolutionary Wars and the early Napoleonic period. It was compiled and edited under the direction of senior officers of the Imperial Corps of Engineers (corps du génie), many of whom had personally participated in the operations described.

The work is preceded by a chronological and historical overview of French military campaigns from the outbreak of war in 1792 through the Treaty of Pressburg in 1805, situating each siege within the broader strategic evolution of Revolutionary and Napoleonic warfare.

The core of the publication consists of detailed technical and operational accounts of major sieges across Europe. These narratives are written from the perspective of engineer officers responsible for planning and executing siege operations, making the work particularly valuable for its emphasis on fortifications, artillery deployment, engineering works, and the logistics of siege warfare.

Each siege study typically includes descriptions of defensive works, attack approaches, trench systems, artillery positions, engineering methods, command decisions, and the sequence of operations leading to surrender or relief. The combination of firsthand testimony and technical military analysis makes it one of the most authoritative 19th-century sources on French siege warfare.
